Nexo (NEXO): NEXO Utility Is Account and Tier Dependent
NEXO is the utility token used by the Nexo digital-asset platform. It can influence eligible loyalty tiers and product terms, but it is not the native currency of a Nexo blockchain and does not replace Ethereum gas. This page focuses on nEXO Utility Is Account and Tier Dependent and the checks users need before using the protocol or evaluating the token role.
Evaluate NEXO Token utility and transfer requirements before using it in a Nexo account or self-custody wallet.

NEXO Utility Is Account and Tier Dependent
Token ownership alone does not define every product outcome.
Portfolio ratio rather than a fixed token count
Nexo describes loyalty status using the percentage of eligible NEXO Tokens relative to the rest of a client portfolio. Market prices and portfolio changes can therefore move an account between tiers even when the number of NEXO tokens remains unchanged. The platform interface is the source for the current calculation.
Each tier can affect a different set of product terms, including eligible savings rates, borrowing rates, exchange cashback, card cashback or withdrawals. Headlines usually show maximum benefits and can require balances, opt-in choices, minimum account value, jurisdiction and other conditions.
Utility is not a guaranteed yield
NEXO holdings can be used in Savings or Credit Line wallets under current platform rules, and Nexo describes interest on eligible NEXO balances. These are custodial product terms, not a protocol-level staking guarantee. Provider, counterparty, liquidity and regulatory risks remain.
NEXO does not represent ordinary equity in Nexo, a bank deposit or a blanket claim on platform assets. Users should read current terms and risk disclosures for the specific product and region.
The location of NEXO determines which rules apply.
ERC-20 transfer versus account credit
Nexo publishes an Ethereum smart-contract address for the NEXO Token. A self-custody ERC-20 transfer requires ETH gas and the correct contract. Sending tokens to a platform requires the current deposit network and account instructions; the contract address itself is not a top-up address.
Inside Nexo, balances are managed under custodial account terms and can qualify for platform calculations. Outside the platform, the user controls wallet keys and network execution but may not receive those account benefits. Moving between the two contexts introduces withdrawal, deposit and network-support checks.
Collateral and Borrowing Add Liquidation Risk
A utility benefit does not remove the economics of a secured credit line.
Collateral value can move
NEXO can be used in eligible platform credit workflows, but the token market value and the loan-to-value rules can change. Falling collateral value can reduce the safety margin and trigger repayment or liquidation actions under product terms.
An advertised borrowing rate can depend on loyalty tier, collateral mix, loan-to-value and jurisdiction. Users should model the actual account terms rather than assuming the lowest published rate applies for the entire loan.
Most errors come from treating platform and blockchain rules as one system.
Nexo confirmation does not settle every later operational question.
Before buying or transferring
Confirm the official token contract, selected network and destination instructions. Keep ETH for an Ethereum transfer, and do not send to the public token contract as a deposit. Check whether your jurisdiction and account qualify for the product that motivated the purchase.
Recalculate the tier ratio after price changes, review custody and counterparty risk, and avoid treating maximum advertised rates as guaranteed. Test a small deposit when appropriate and wait for the account credit before sending more.

Platform, Ethereum or tools
Use Nexo loyalty and Help Center pages for current eligibility and product terms. Review Ethereum before self-custody transfers, and use general wallet tools to verify addresses without entering account credentials or private keys.
Nexo compares eligible NEXO holdings with the value of other assets in a client portfolio to determine loyalty status. Benefits can affect yield, borrowing, exchange, card or withdrawal terms, subject to current jurisdiction and account requirements.
Holding NEXO does not guarantee exchange custody, withdrawal availability, discounts, redemption or issuer support. NEXO is the asset shown in the market snapshot. ETH pays self-custody ERC-20 transfer and contract gas.
What Nexo users should verify and why this design differs
Nexo products, rates and eligibility vary by jurisdiction and account. Custodial platform terms can change independently of the token contract.
For Nexo, the practical sequence is Identify utility, Verify network, Check issuer rules, Use or transfer, Confirm custody. Confirm the official destination and current network, then inspect the final balance, position, receipt or documented exit state that actually completes the task: Evaluate NEXO Token utility and transfer requirements before using it in a Nexo account or self-custody wallet.

Nexo Ecosystem use FAQ
What determines a Nexo loyalty tier?
Current tiers depend on the value ratio of eligible NEXO holdings to the rest of the account portfolio.
What pays an Ethereum NEXO transfer fee?
ETH pays ERC-20 network gas.
Is NEXO a guaranteed interest product?
No. Token utility and eligible account returns depend on current Nexo terms and risks.
Known Limitations
